Our standard service includes the following:
Wood Base Mulch
We use a wood base mulch as opposed to cellulose (paper)
mulch. Paper mulch works fine in the cooler climates, but
here along the gulf coast it can actually cause problems.
If paper is applied at the thicker rates needed here, it
can crust and suffocate the seeds. Wood mulch breathes
which allows air to reach the seeds and will not form a
crust.
Certified Bermuda Triangle Seeds
We use only Certified seeds in our mix. In addition, our
standard service uses Triangle Blend rather than Common
Bermuda. Common Bermuda works fine for erosion control
along roadsides but for a quality lawn, the Triangle
Blend works much better. Triangle Blend contains a
mixture of three (Sultan, Sydney and Mohawk) improved
varieties of Bermuda resulting in a darker green, denser
lawn that is much more drought tolerant. Also, the leaf
blades are finer than with Common.
For the ultimate lawn, we offer Princess Bermuda. This is
the only hybrid Bermuda available from seed. Princess is
very similar to Tiff 419 in density and leaf width. Since
Princess is only available in limited quantities, it does
get a premium price. However, this price is still only
about half of what it would cost for Tiff 419 sod.
Water Soluble Fertilizer
We use a water-soluble fertilizer that works
very well when hydroseeding. Since it gets completely
dissolved in the slurry, each seed is coated which in
turn decreases the time to germinate and also increases
root development to get your new lawn off to the best
start possible.
Tackifier
Tackifier (tack) is used to keep the seeds where they are. If enough
tack is not used, you run the risk of losing most if not all of the
seed. We use a high quality tack in the correct amount for the situation.
A flat surface does not need as much tack as a hill side, but it does need it. Mulch will
tend to float on a flat surface where the water may pond during a heavy rain. If the mulch
floats, you'll get a "ripple" effect resulting in a disappointing stand of grass .
Additional Service
Soil Test
Without a soil test, you're just guessing at the
nutrients needed to support a lush, beautiful lawn. We
will come to your site and pull soil samples (small
unobtrusive cores) and send them to a qualified
agricultural lab to be analyzed. It takes 10 days to get
the results back. Once we have the results, you will get
a copy of the report stating the fertilizing requirements
for your chosen grass. If you wish you can do this yourself by submitting a soil sample
to Texas A&M University's Cooperative
Extension Service.
However, please do not rely on the kits available at home
improvement stores, they are inaccurate. We highly
suggest having soil tests done on a yearly basis.
